QB Ricky Stanzi Likely Sidelined For Iowa’s Final Two Games

Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi went to the locker room in the second quarter of the Northwestern game after a hard hit in the end-zone by Corey Wootton, which also caused a fumble. The fumble was recovered by the Wildcats for a touchdown.

After wincing in severe pain and getting up with a limp, Stanzi was helped off the field and replaced by redshirt freshman James Vandenberg.

Stanzi had four completions for 134 yards, a touchdown, and an interception before heading to the locker room.

In the second half, Stanzi returned to the sidelines wearing a walking boot and using crutches. It has been reported by ESPN and the Big Ten Network that Stanzi suffered a high ankle sprain.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz reported after the game that Stanzi is likely out of action for Iowa's next two games. This is a huge blow to the Hawkeyes, who are 5-1 in the Big Ten and tied for first place with Ohio State and Penn State.

Iowa went on to lose the game to Northwestern, 17-10, ending their perfect season and likely ending their national title chances.
